Jazz Pensacola endeavors to provide a social forum for jazz performance, education and enjoyment for listeners and musicians. We have memberships at all levels — individual, couple, corresponding (outside the area) and student, as well as advanced memberships all the way up to Sponsor. In the News: Executive Director Emeritus Norman Vickers named a 2021 Jazz Hero by Jazz Journalists Association Dr. Norman Vickers , Executive Director Emeritus of Jazz Pensacola, has been named a 2021 Jazz Hero by the Jazz Journalists Association . The group’s Jazz Heroes are “advocates who have had significant impact in their local communities. The ‘Jazz Hero’ awards, made annually on the basis of nominations from community members, are presented by their local fans and friends in conjunction with the JJA’s annual Jazz Awards honoring significant achievements in jazz music and journalism.” Read more about the honor. Jazz Pensacola’s Student Jazz Competition presents bright, new musical stars for 2021 Master of Ceremonies Roger Villines, student competitors Jensen Cadenhead, Max Levesque, Brianna Marler, Katarina Marshall, Joshua Mullikin. In its ongoing mission to promote all forms of jazz in the Central Gulf Coast region, Jazz Pensacola presented the 11th Annual Student Jazz Competition on Monday, March 15, at Phineas Phogg’s in downtown Pensacola. Jazz Pensacola seeks to encourage emerging jazz musicians (vocalists and instrumentalists) during their student years. The larger jazz community, including musicians and educators, feel that by welcoming students and giving them an opportunity to showcase and develop their talents, they are helping create the jazz musicians of the future, and thereby fostering the future of jazz. Upcoming Events April & May Jazz Jams Professional musician and long-time Jazz Pensacola member Roger Villines leads Jazz Pensacola’s monthly Jazz Jams. Join in some fun jamming as Jazz Pensacola presents Jazz Jams 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, April 7 and May 5, at The 5 Barrel Brewery & Taproom , 121 S. Palafox St., downtown Pensacola. Get to The 5 Barrel for super evenings of jazz. The venue is large and spacious with great acoustics. Led by professional musicians, Jazz Jam is strictly for fun, an opportunity to play jazz with the best. Drummers please bring your own sticks/brushes, and horn players please follow guidelines. Admission is free for participating musicians and vocalists, including high school and college students with a student ID. General admission: Donations. Craft beers, seltzers made in-house, a selection of fine wine, as well as sodas, are available at The 5 Barrel. Minimal menu, so plan ahead. Pensacola JazzFest 2021 The 37th annual Pensacola JazzFest will be May 15-16, 2021 at Seville Square in historic downtown Pensacola. As always, JazzFest is a free and celebrates America’s unique musical art form, jazz. With its beautiful live oaks and historic surroundings, Seville Square and the gazebo stage offer a perfect springtime setting for Pensacola JazzFest. This year’s headliners include Doug Horn, Joe Murphy Quartet, Tony Viviano, Allen Beeson and Freedom Jazz Dectet, La’Roy Bodiford Quartet, Excelsior Brass Band, Fais Do-Do, Five Alive Quintet, Chip Herrington Quintet, Neighbors You Know, Nobius, Alex Nollan, Glenn Parker Band, Isabelle Schrack Band , and the J ack Zoesch Quartet.
